Restitution - California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation

|
The VCGCB provides funding for five positions at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). These positions are responsible for the collection of restitution from inmates and parolees on behalf of victims whose offenders are currently incarcerated in a CDCR institution or serving parole, as well as on behalf of the VCGCB when offenders are ordered to repay compensation awards the VCGCB has made to victims. The VCGCB’s collaboration with CDCR continues to serve all victims in the collection of restitution obligation from CDCR inmates.
The CDCR Office of Victim and Survivor Rights and Services will notify registered victims of an offender’s status and assist crime victims by collecting restitution from the offender. Through December 2006 the CDCR will garnish 40% of an inmate’s trust account every month to pay his or her restitution and other court-ordered obligations. After January 2007 CDCR will garnish 50% each month. Information about how to register for notification or to receive restitution is available toll-free from the CDCR Office of Victim and Survivor Rights and Services at (877) 256-6877.
Office of Victim and Survivor Rights and Services can also provide information and assist victims with notification and restitution collection when an offender is a juvenile in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ - formerly California Youth Authority). DJJ garnishes 50% of a juvenile offender’s trust account each month they are incarcerated to pay restitution and other court-ordered obligations through the Victims Reparation Project.
